Amscot helps fund local program that puts deserving candidates behind the wheel

Tampa, FL –Amscot Financial will return as a sponsor of the “12 Cars of Christmas” program run by Wheels of Success, an organization which supplies refurbished vehicles to working families who need reliable transportation to get to work but can’t afford it. Amscot will present the keys to a refurbished 2008 Ford Expedition to a single mother of four on December 20th at their branch located at 2922 N Himes Ave, Tampa.

G.W., who cares for four children between the ages of 4 and 16, has been on the “waiting for wheels” list for eight months after her 1998 Honda finally died at over 300,000 miles, even after making numerous repairs. In her day job, G.W. helps those in need apply for Marketplace insurance as well as food stamps. Yet she still finds time to volunteer within the Wheels of Success organization in spite of her family’s hectic schedule. G.W. will receive a vehicle well-suited to her family’s needs thanks in part to Amscot’s contribution of $3,200, which was used to refurbish the vehicle.

G.W. is one of many hardworking individuals who’ve been recognized by the “12 Cars of Christmas” program through Wheels of Success. Candidates are often chosen for their ability to make the best of tough circumstances. In spite of losing the ability to drive, G.W. found creative ways to commute to work while also getting her children to necessary appointments and extra-curricular activities.

“The individuals served by this program prove that adversity is no match for sheer determination,” says Ian MacKechnie, Amscot’s founder, chairman and CEO. “All of us at Amscot are proud to support those who let nothing stand in the way of providing for their families.”

Wheels of Success was incorporated in June 2003 to help families obtain or continue work by providing them with reliable transportation through a program of car repairs, vehicle replacement, related licensing services, car payments, down payments and car-care classes in both Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties.
