Pasco County Sheriff's Office - 13th Annual Bicycle Rodeo

On December 10, 2005, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office held its 13th Annual Bicycle Rodeo. "Santa" helped distribute forty-two bicycles and helmets to disadvantaged children who were selected by Pasco County school social workers and HUD managers. Amscot Financial donated the bicycle helmets for the event.

Senator Victor Crist - USF Area Civic Association

Each year, hundreds of children attend the University Area Community Holiday Festival. For these children, the presents they receive here may be the only Christmas gifts they will have. Demographic studies of the University Area Community by the Federal government show it to be one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in all of Florida. The University Area Community Development Corporation was formed to bring both state and local government together with community leaders and residents to increase economic development, job opportunities, and affordable housing.

Amscot Financial contributed $1,000.00 toward the holiday program this year. The donation was used to help fund the Holiday Festival which provides services to families in this area, and specifically, to help bring Christmas to the children of this community.

Amscot Financial donated 75 PC’s, 75 monitors, 15 printers and 25 hubs to Cops and Computers for the Community, a nonprofit, charitable organization that gives computers to children from disadvantaged neighborhoods, single mothers in adult learning classes and elderly citizens that are confined to nursing homes. To date, this year’s donation from Amscot Financial is the largest donation ever received by the program.

Largo Police Department Bike Rodeo - Belcher Elementary School

On April 2, 2005, Belcher Elementary School in Largo, Florida held its 3 rd Annual Belcher Bobcat Family Picnic and Bike Rodeo. The annual event is a fun-filled day of food, games, entertainment, prizes and bike safety education for local students. Amscot Financial provided 100 bike helmets for the bike rodeo, sponsored by the Largo Police Department. Bike helmets were required for all students that participated in the obstacle course during the bike rodeo. Amscot’s helmet donation made it possible for each child to have a helmet and learn the importance of bike safety.

Annual Pinellas County Open House for District 51

During this year’s open house event for District 51, Florida House Representative Leslie Waters designated part of the event for the 1st Annual Diaper and Teddy Bear Drive. Amscot Financial presented Representative Waters with over 400 individual packs of Pampers and 6 cases of baby wipes in support of this effort. The Diaper and Teddy Bear Drive was launched to help support local adoptions, encourage foster care, to support infants in shelter care and to recognize special babies currently receiving treatment at All Children’s Hospital.

TASCO Teen Summer Extreme Program – St. Petersburg, FL

This year, Amscot donated $3,000 to support the TASCO Teen Summer Extreme Program held in St. Petersburg. The Summer Extreme Program serves over 10,000 teenagers with special events, sports leagues and a teen camp. The Program offers teens the opportunity to build lasting relationships, connect with positive adult role models and experience exciting programs geared toward their age level.

Amscot Financial recently donated $1,000.00 to the Tampa Bay Area Intelligence Unit. The Intelligence Unit is comprised of various Federal, State, Local and Military law enforcement agencies from the West Central Florida area. Amscot is a member of the group which meets once a month at the Tampa Police Department to discuss various law enforcement issues.

Hillsborough County Crossing Guard Annual Training
Amscot places a high value on the people and organizations that help educate, feed and protect the children within our communities. That's why we buy lunch for the hundreds of Hillsborough County School Crossing Guards who attend the county's annual training program. We proudly support the men and women who volunteer their time to help safeguard our children as they travel to and from school.
 

Lakeland Police Department (Southwest Middle School) – Lakeland, FL
Amscot Financial participated in providing bike helmets for a Bike Safety Program at Southwest Middle School sponsored by a School Resource Officer for Lakeland Police Department.

Rainbow Village Bicycle Rodeo – St. Petersburg, FL
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Community Policing Unit and the Crime Prevention Unit hosted a bike rodeo for the Rainbow Village YMCA Community. Amscot Financial assisted with 100 bike helmets for the participants.

The State Attorney’s Office – Tampa, FL
The State Attorney’s Office once again adopted the students at DeSoto Elementary School for Christmas and Amscot Financial assisted in donating 28 bike helmets. Many of the children are from migrant families and qualify for assistance.

Congressman Allen Boyd's Annual Charity Dove Hunt
This year, Amscot donated $5,000 to support Congressman Allen Boyd's Annual Charity Dove Hunt held in Tallahassee. The proceeds from the Dove Hunt will be donated to Capital City Youth Services (CCYS). CCYS provides crisis shelter and counseling for troubled youth and their families. Over 700 runaway and other youth in crisis seek these services each year in Leon County as well as seven additional counties in the surrounding area. CCYS works to reunify teens with their family and then provide support services to keep the families together.

The National Conference of Black Mayors – Hurricane Katrina
Disaster Relief Fund

This year, Amscot donated $3,700 to support the National Conference of Black Mayors (NCBM) Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Fund. The Disaster Relief Fund is helping supply fuel for trucks that are delivering much needed supplies to the Gulf Coast region in the aftermath of the devastation created by Hurricane Katrina. The focus of the NCBM is ensuring that supplies are delivered not only to New Orleans, but also to the smaller surrounding towns which are still experiencing great difficulties.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
The Tampa Bay Alumnae Chapter of the sorority sponsored a component of their youth initiative, the “Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy” 3rd Annual Career Expo, which is designed to encourage at-risk middle school girls, ages 11-14, to pursue higher education and ultimately attain non-traditional careers in math, science and technology. We donated gift-in-kind items to be used by the participants in the program during the session.

Pasco County Sheriff’s Office
Pasco County Sheriff’s Office held their 9th Annual Septemberfest Bicycle Safety Demonstration. All participants in the event were eligible to win a bike at the end, as well as a bike helmet provided by Amscot Financial.

Westshore Alliance
Westshore Alliance recognized the 8th Annual Commuter Choices Week during an event where they gave away child bike helmets to attendees with the help of Amscot Financial.

Continuing to promote “Kids First” through child safety, in October 2005, Amscot donated 15 bike helmets to a Special Education class of 3-10 year olds at Claywell Elementary School. The teacher and students were very grateful to receive the donation of helmets.

Pizzo Elementary School

In February 2005, Amscot Financial continued in the bike helmet giveaway tradition by donating over 25 helmets to the Early Exceptional Learning Program at Pizzo Elementary School. The special needs children, ages 3-5 years, were very excited to receive new bike helmets!

Tabernacle Christian School in Sarasota, FL held their Annual Wheel-A-Thon, a school-wide bicycling and rollerblading competition for students 3-14 years of age. Amscot Financial donated child bike helmets to be given away as prizes for the winners.

Pinellas County Superintendent’s Luncheon for Community Involvement and Achievement
Amscot sponsored a luncheon for the Pinellas County Superintendent of Schools in order to foster open communication between the school district and local community leaders. Superintendent Dr. Clayton Wilcox called upon local church leaders in his first session to discuss minority issues in Pinellas County. Dr. Wilcox’s goal is to focus on achievement within the school system, specifically addressing issues for minority students in order to help them reach their goals. The first luncheon proved to be a
great success!

Lakewood Elementary School – St. Petersburg, FL
This year we donated $500 to sponsor the Math Parent Workshop held on September 22, 2005 at Lakewood Elementary School in St. Petersburg. The workshop educates parents of elementary school-aged children on how to work through and complete the math homework that the children take home. By assisting parents, students are more successful in completing their homework assignments and achieving passing grades.

Lomax Elementary Magnet School – Tampa, FL
This year, Amscot Financial donated 50 bike helmets to the Health and Safety Fair that was held at Lomax Elementary Magnet School. The Health and Safety Fair included booths which provided information on health and personal safety issues, poison control, animal safety, hurricane preparedness, firearm safety, water safety, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, child abduction prevention, CPR, and automobile safety. The first 50 children to visit each booth received a free bike helmet from Amscot Financial!

13th Annual Golf Tournament for A Brighter Community – Tampa, FL
A Brighter Community is a non-profit pre-school and family support program that subsidizes admission to the pre-school for children ages 3-6 whose parents are mostly low-income, single parents that are either working, full-time students or in job training programs. This year, Amscot Financial donated pens for the 13th Annual Golf Tournament which is A Brighter Community’s major annual fundraising event. The pens were added to goodie bags which were given to the event participants.

Hillsborough Education Foundation
Amscot Financial contributed to the Hillsborough Education Foundation’s Annual Comedy Night. Proceeds from the Comedy Night benefit the Communities in Schools “stay in school” programs administered through the Hillsborough Education Foundation. Communities in Schools of Hillsborough is dedicated to providing needed community resources to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life.
 
Help A Child, Inc. - Pinellas Park, FL

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to Help A Child, Inc. which operates six programs that provide assistance to families who have children with special needs and families who are experiencing child abuse, neglect, or exposure to violence. Programs range from prevention techniques to intensive residential care. The organization serves all of Pinellas County and does not charge the community for its programs. Amscot’s donation will help fund the purchase of items for the children and families that are served throughout the community.

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to Help Now of Osceola, Inc. Domestic Violence Shelter. Help Now provides safe shelter and counseling for victims of domestic violence – both adults and children. The program also provides public awareness programs to promote violence-free living. Services provided by Help Now include assistance with filing victim’s compensation claims, domestic violence information and referrals, personal advocacy, crisis counseling, criminal justice support/advocacy, therapy, group treatment, crisis hot-line, shelter/safe house, and community education. Amscot’s donation will support the children’s programs.

American Diabetes Association - Orlando, FL

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to the American Diabetes Association’s School Walk for Diabetes Orlando Campaign. The program is the association’s signature school-based event which aids school fundraising and increases diabetes awareness for students grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Students learn about diabetes and ways to prevent the disease by eating right and exercising regularly through classes and activities. Participants also raise money for diabetes research, information and education initiatives. Schools that raise $1,000 or more earn gift certificates for physical education and school medical supplies. The School Walk for Diabetes benefits schools, students and communities by promoting community service, school spirit and healthy living for students.

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida’s (DSACF) in support of its 8th Annual Buddy Walk, scheduled for October 22, 2005. The Buddy Walk is a national event created by the National Down Syndrome Society 10 years ago to promote understanding and acceptance of all persons with Down syndrome. The DSACF was founded in 1992 and works in collaboration with community hospitals, gynecologists, pediatricians and developmental disability groups to provide support, referrals and resources to families when they first learn their new baby has Down syndrome. The DSACF serves Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and Brevard counties.

Amscot Financial’s contribution will be used to forward the mission and vision of the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida as a leading voice for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

The New Port Richey Marine Institute, New Port Richey, FL
The New Port Richey Marine Institute is part of a national organization, Associated Marine Institutes, Inc. (AMI), which rehabilitates adjudicated kids in smaller classes in middle and high school settings, with academic instruction, experiential education, mentoring and goal setting, and works to increase self-esteem through responsibility and accountability. The overall goal of the AMI program is to provide an opportunity for kids who are academically behind in school and have behavioral issues to catch up or surpass their peers in academics.

The institute successfully reintegrates youth back into their communities, schools and family settings by meeting the special needs of the state, as well as the specific needs at the local level, in the community where the program is located. Overall, the institute works to prevent adjudicated youth from committing any new law violations after leaving their program.

Amscot Financial
The Kid Companion Program was established in 1999 by the Retired & Volunteer Program, a sponsored agency of the Council on Aging. The program takes place once weekly, bringing at-risk youth and senior volunteers together for mentoring activities in a safe and caring environment. Paired with senior mentors for one-on-one interaction, the students receive the encouragement they need to develop their social skills and self-esteem while participating in constructive learning activities. Camaraderie is encouraged among the students and mentors through activities such as: arts and crafts, share and care sessions, snack time, guest speakers, volunteer activities, homework assistance and field trips. The children also celebrate their accomplishments with their parents and mentors at an end-of-term Recognition Banquet. Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to the Kid Companion Program which went toward the purchase of art supplies for the program.

The Mother and Baby Center, Sanford, FL
The “Mother and Baby Center” in Sanford, FL is a program of the Seminole County Healthy Start Coalition. It serves as a drop-in center to link families with available community resources, especially those with transportation difficulties. Since 2004, 86 families have received services at the Center in Seminole Gardens Apartments. Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 donation to the Mother and Baby Center which helped them purchase computer equipment for the Children’s Homework Section of the Center.

Charity Challenge, Altamonte Springs, FL
Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to Charity Challenge, Inc. which was founded in 1987 by Florida State Senator Lee Constantine. Young adults from throughout Central Florida compete in six challenging, fun-filled, co-ed athletic events, while giving back to the community at the same time. In 2004, there were 96 participating teams and $515,000 was awarded to over 100 Central Florida charities. Charity Challenge and the athletic event have grown into Central Florida's largest independent charity, raising $5 million over the past 19 years.

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to The “Sweet Dreams” Campaign which provides free infant car seats and cribs to families with limited financial means. Since 2003, the Seminole County Healthy Start Coalition has purchased and distributed over 60 items. The goal of the campaign is to reduce the number of accidental infant deaths as a result of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and infant deaths due to the lack of adequate car safety restraints.

The Mary Bradley Weeks Educational Project, Inc., Sarasota, FL
Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to The Mary Bradley Weeks Educational Project, Inc., to help fund the purchase of school supplies for Sarasota and Manatee County students in need. The Sarasota-based non-profit organization was established in 2002 by Mary Bradley Weeks in memory of her two-year-old great grandson who was killed by an unlicensed hit-and-run driver. Participants in the school supply giveaways become eligible by referral from designated community agencies. The giveaways are held before the fall and winter semesters, each August and January. Since the project was founded, hundreds of students have benefited from this act of love.

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to Central Florida Health Care, Inc., a partnership of people, governments and communities working together to meet the local healthcare needs of Polk, Highlands, and Hardee County residents. Founded in 1973, Central Florida Health Care is one of 27 community health centers located in the state of Florida. They provide primary and specialty care at five centers throughout the three county radius, with the Frostproof and Dundee Centers serving the Auburndale community. The contribution will support “Closing the Gap”, a childhood and adult immunization awareness campaign. This program is primarily funded through the Florida Department of Health.

Tampa Bay Academy of Hope, Tampa, FL
Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to the Tampa Bay Academy of Hope, a grassroots agency serving low-income families who reside in the designated “Enterprise Zone” within the City of Tampa. The agency's programs are designed to help youth who are at-risk of early school dropout. The award will be received by Chief Executive Officer, James M. Evans, former NFL running back for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, servant-leader and Chairman of the Mayor's African American Advisory Council. Evans has served over 100,000 youth and parents through the Tampa Bay Academy of Hope. The donation will go towards providing direct resources for youth and parents in their “Leadership Through Education” Program which promotes rising above adversity, building self esteem, reversing violent trends and strengthening relationships.

The American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund


 
The mission of the Red Cross is to "provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies." The Disaster Relief Fund is the primary funding source that enables the Red Cross to provide direct assistance to victims of recent hurricanes and countless other natural and manmade disasters nationwide. Amscot Financial donated $10,000 to the America Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund. The fund was designed specifically to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The Salvation Army Tree of Lights Breakfast – Tampa, FL

Amscot Financial was a platinum sponsor for this year’s 12th Annual Salvation Army Tree of Lights Breakfast, held on Wednesday, November 16th at the Tampa Convention Center. Management Team members were in attendance including President/CEO of Amscot Financial Ian MacKechnie, Executive Vice President Ian A. MacKechnie and Vice President of Financial Services Fraser MacKechnie. The event serves as a kickoff for the Army’s local holiday fundraising efforts to provide food, clothing, shelter and year-round emergency assistance to the community's neediest families. Amscot Financial also donated pens and unwrapped toys for distribution through the Army’s Adopt a Child Program which provides thousands of youth gifts during the holiday season. The event is attended and supported by more than 1,000 community leaders and citizens each year.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay and Sarasota
 

In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow -- all while having fun. It is truly “The Positive Place for Kids.”

For this reason, Amscot made a commitment for the construction of a new Boys and Girls Club in Brandon, FL, which will provide after-school care and summer activities for more than 500 children in the area. Child Protection Education of America – ID Me Know
Fingerprinting Program
 
Hilary Sessions, Executive Director of Child Protection Education of America, Inc. completes the fingerprinting process for a local child in Sebring, FL

The Child Protection Education of America, Inc. (CPEA), a national non-profit organization for missing children based in Tampa, FL participates in every Amscot Grand Opening Event. The CPEA provides fingerprinting for children through their “ID ME NOW” program, which produces a state-of-the-art, specially designed card, for parents to keep. The card contains a set of the child’s digital fingerprints, a black and white photo of the child, a dental chart, and instructions on how to do a simple DNA collection. Safety brochures are provided with the fingerprint card, as well as an envelope containing further information on how to complete their child safety kit. This information can assist parents and law enforcement officers involved with a missing child case. The information and services provided by the CPEA to Amscot customers is free.

The Tampa Museum of Art provides a broad range of art-related experiences for visitors of all ages. The Museum collection includes twentieth-century and contemporary art and a renowned collection of Greek and Roman antiquities. Complementing these exhibitions are a wide range of classes, lectures, seminars, and children's activities. We supported the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Program in Tallahassee by contributing to the Boyd Family Annual Charity Dove Hunt & Dinner. Our generous support helped to augment program services for the agency. With our community support, as well as others, the organization is able to bring more magic to the lives of children in the Big Bend area.

Blooming Place for Kids
This Clearwater-based non-profit is committed to enriching the lives of children ages 8 to 15 who are at risk due to neglect and abuse by providing a unique summer camp program (designed to build good character, provide interaction and good values) which has a profound effect on their self esteem. Throughout the year they also provide ongoing support in other ways including a newsletter. Amscot Financial provided a gift-in-kind donation for the participants in their 3rd Annual “Sponsor a Child for Camp” Charity Golf Tournament.

The Angelus House
The Angelus House is a home for severely handicapped persons who are not able to care for themselves. All of the residents and students have cerebral palsy and are confined to wheelchairs. Amscot Financial made a contribution to their 15th Annual Country Concert, which raises funds to support the work and services that they provide.

The Children’s Home
The Children’s Home was founded in 1892 and is the oldest charity on Florida’s west coast. It has assisted more than 20,000 children and placed 6,000 children with loving foster/adoptive families. Amscot Financial supported a special event sponsored by their South Tampa Auxiliary for the Conn-Cottage, a house for elementary school age children at The Children’s Home.

The Children’s Museum of Tampa, Inc.

The Children’s Museum is an educational and cultural resource dedicated to toddlers to teen’s literacy and cultural diversity. Amscot sponsored tables for their annual gala event, as well as provided resource support to their marketing and public relations committees.
 
Angels in Care, New Port Richey, FL

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to Angels in Care, a nonprofit organization that cares for children with special needs, including children with disabilities, life threatening illnesses and abused foster children from the Tampa Bay area, including New Port Richey. The contribution will go towards their building project, a unique kid’s complex on more than 30 acres of land. The building project vision includes a child care center for children with special needs who will receive services such as physical and speech therapy and parent support groups. Angels in Care also assists with providing special back to school supplies, annual summer camp needs and toys for those in need at Christmas. Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to Central Florida Health Care, Inc., a partnership of people, governments and communities working together to meet the local healthcare needs of Polk, Highlands, and Hardee County residents. Founded in 1973, Central Florida Health Care is one of 27 community health centers located in the state of Florida. They provide primary and specialty care at five centers throughout the three county radius, with the Frostproof and Dundee Centers serving the Auburndale community. The contribution will support “Closing the Gap”, a childhood and adult immunization awareness campaign. This program is
primarily funded through the Florida Department of Health.

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to Charity Challenge, Inc. which was founded in 1987 by Florida State Senator Lee Constantine. Young adults from throughout Central Florida compete in six challenging, fun-filled, co-ed athletic events, while giving back to the community at the same time. In 2004, there were 96 participating teams and $515,000 was awarded to over 100 Central Florida charities. Charity Challenge and the athletic event have grown into Central Florida's largest independent charity, raising $5 million over the past 19 years.

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to Computers for Kids, Inc., a recently formed non-profit corporation whose primary mission is to provide home computers for less fortunate families with school-age children. Founded in April 2004, the organization is solely supported by the community through financial contributions and the donation of used computers. The founder and volunteers with the organization refurbish the donated computers. Families who need a computer complete an application and the child receiving the computer must prove how it will benefit their family and education by writing an essay. To date, twelve computers have been refurbished and donated to those in need.

The Orange County Head Start Program is among the best early childhood development programs in the nation. The Program's vision is to set the standard of excellence in leadership and services necessary to conquer the changes and challenges of a 21st Century generation. Currently the Program serves 1,416 children and families at 30 center-based sites. The goal for Orange County 's Head Start Child Uniform Program is to purchase and provide five sets of uniforms for each participant in the Program. A set of uniforms includes 5 Polo shirts each (for both boys and girls) in addition to 3 pair of shorts and 2 pair of pants for boys and 3 pair of skorts and 2 pair of long shorts for girls. Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to The “Sweet Dreams” Campaign which provides free infant car seats and cribs to families with limited financial means. Since 2003, the Seminole County Healthy Start Coalition has purchased and distributed over 60 items. The goal of the campaign is to reduce the number of accidental infant deaths as a result of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and infant deaths due to the lack of adequate car safety restraints.

The Kid Companion Program was established in 1999 by the Retired & Volunteer Program, a sponsored agency of the Council on Aging. The program takes place once weekly, bringing at-risk youth and senior volunteers together for mentoring activities in a safe and caring environment. Paired with senior mentors for one-on-one interaction, the students receive the encouragement they need to develop their social skills and self-esteem while participating in constructive learning activities. Camaraderie is encouraged among the students and mentors through activities such as: arts and crafts, share and care sessions, snack time, guest speakers, volunteer activities, homework assistance and field trips. The children also celebrate their accomplishments with their parents and mentors at an end-of-term Recognition Banquet. Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to the Kid Companion Program which went toward the purchase of art supplies for the program.

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to The Mary Bradley Weeks Educational Project, Inc., to help fund the purchase of school supplies for Sarasota and Manatee County students in need. The Sarasota-based non-profit organization was established in 2002 by Mary Bradley Weeks in memory of her two-year-old great grandson who was killed by an unlicensed hit-and-run driver. Participants in the school supply giveaways become eligible by referral from designated community agencies. The giveaways are held before the fall and winter semesters, each August and January. Since the project was founded, hundreds of students have benefited from this

The New Port Richey Marine Institute is part of a national organization, Associated Marine Institutes, Inc. (AMI), which rehabilitates adjudicated kids in smaller classes in middle and high school settings, with academic instruction, experiential education, mentoring and goal setting, and works to increase self-esteem through responsibility and accountability. The overall goal of the AMI program is to provide an opportunity for kids who are academically behind in school and have behavioral issues to catch up or surpass their peers in academics.




The institute successfully reintegrates youth back into their communities, schools and family settings by meeting the special needs of the state, as well as the specific needs at the local level, in the community where the program is located. Overall, the institute works to prevent adjudicated youth from committing any new law violations after leaving their program. Press Release - June 8, 2005

The “Mother and Baby Center” in Sanford, FL is a program of the Seminole County Healthy Start Coalition. It serves as a drop-in center to link families with available community resources, especially those with transportation difficulties. Since 2004, 86 families have received services at the Center in Seminole Gardens Apartments. Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 donation to the Mother and Baby Center which helped them purchase computer equipment for the Children’s Homework Section of the Center.

Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida’s (DSACF) in support of its 8th Annual Buddy Walk, scheduled for October 22, 2005. The Buddy Walk is a national event created by the National Down Syndrome Society 10 years ago to promote understanding and acceptance of all persons with Down syndrome. The DSACF was founded in 1992 and works in collaboration with community hospitals, gynecologists, pediatricians and developmental disability groups to provide support, referrals and resources to families when they first learn their new baby has Down syndrome. The DSACF serves Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and Brevard counties.

Amscot Financial’s contribution will be used to forward the mission and vision of the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida as a leading voice for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

The program is the association’s signature school-based event which aids school fundraising and increases diabetes awareness for students grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Students learn about diabetes and ways to prevent the disease by eating right and exercising regularly through classes and activities. Participants also raise money for diabetes research, information and education initiatives. Schools that raise $1,000 or more earn gift certificates for physical education and school medical supplies. Amscot Financial presented a $1,000 contribution to Help Now of Osceola, Inc. Domestic Violence Shelter. Help Now provides safe shelter and counseling for victims of domestic violence – both adults and children. The program also provides public awareness programs to promote violence-free living. Services provided by Help Now include assistance with filing victim’s compensation claims, domestic violence information and referrals, personal advocacy, crisis counseling, criminal justice support/advocacy, therapy, group treatment, crisis hot-line, shelter/safe house, and community education. Amscot’s donation will support the children’s programs.
